2026 MLB Playoff Bracket & Postseason Update: Wild Card Shocker & Division Series Matchups Set

The best-of-three Wild Card round delivered plenty of drama across both leagues:

American League (ALWCS)

• (6) Chicago White Sox def. (3) Houston Astros (2-0): The White Sox pulled off a massive statement by sweeping the Astros on the road at Daikin Park, taking Game 1 (6-3) and Game 2 (7-3) to punch their ticket to the ALDS.

• (4) New York Yankees def. (5) Boston Red Sox (2-0): The Bronx Bombers made short work of their historic rivals, blanking Boston 9-0 in Game 1 and cruising to a 9-2 victory in Game 2 at Yankee Stadium.

National League (NLWCS)

• (4) San Diego Padres def. (5) Chicago Cubs (2-0): Backed by dominant pitching at Petco Park, the Padres shut down the Cubs with an 8-0 shutout in Game 1 and a 4-1 win in Game 2.

• (3) Atlanta Braves vs. (6) Philadelphia Phillies (Series Tied 1-1): This fierce NL East battle is the only series going the distance. After the Braves took Game 1 (5-3), the Phillies bounced back with a dramatic 4-3 extra-inning thriller in Game 10 on Wednesday. They face off in a winner-take-all Game 3 tonight at Truist Park.

The Division Series Matchups

With the bracket taking shape, the Division Series (DS) schedule is locked in to start on Saturday, October 3.

American League Division Series (ALDS)

• (1) Tampa Bay Rays vs. (4) New York Yankees: The AL East champion Rays earned the top seed and will host the red-hot Yankees.

• (2) Cleveland Guardians vs. (6) Chicago White Sox: The Guardians look to fend off a surging White Sox squad that is riding high off their Wild Card sweep.

National League Division Series (NLDS)

• (1) Milwaukee Brewers vs. (4) San Diego Padres: The top-seeded Brewers (who clinched the best record in MLB) welcome the Padres to American Family Field.

• (2) Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Winner of (3) Braves / (6) Phillies: The Dodgers await the survivor of tonight's high-stakes Game 3 showdown in Atlanta.

Looking Ahead to the Fall Classic

Following the Division Series, the League Championship Series (LCS) will get underway mid-October, leading straight into the 2026 World Series, which is scheduled to begin on Friday, October 23.
